Student engagement is one of the emerging ‘buzz words’ in Higher Education which has been significantly researched over recent years. Research clearly indicates that engaging students in their learning process increases their attention and focus, motivates them to practice higher-level critical thinking skills, and promotes meaningful learning experiences. Faculty members who adopt engaging student-centered approaches to instruction increase opportunities for students to apply what they have learned in practice and increase their motivation, which in its turn helps successfully achieve their learning outcomes. This highly interactive 2-day ‘hands-on’ workshop is designed to expose and engage participants to various active learning strategies and consider how these can be effectively integrated into the classroom. Participants will also discuss associated challenges and identify ways to overcome these. The use of various technologies to support different active learning strategies and methods will be used including those tools available through most learning management systems.
