The UK’s Higher Education Academy is an agency that supports excellent learning and teaching in higher education. It is a national, independent organisation, funded by the UK government and by subscriptions from higher education institutions in the UK and overseas. It is committed to improving the student learning experience by raising the status of teaching, enhancing professional teaching practice and maintaining networks and communities engaged with teaching enhancement. It works in partnership with universities, their staff and students, sector agencies and funding bodies to support both institutions and individuals to raise quality standards.
Central to the work of the is the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for learning and teaching in higher education. The UKPSF helps institutions link their professional development programmes with best practice in the area of teaching and learning support. It is used to support discussions about teaching, to inform institutional policy and practice around career progression, promotion and in the reward and recognition of individual teachers.
